Privacy Policy
The short version
WindLimit does not require an account and does not collect personal information. Your settings stay on your device. Two features involve sending limited data off your device: fetching weather, which goes to a U.S. government service, and the ads in the free version, which are served by Google. Both are described below.
From version 1.0.4, the free version asks whether you will allow tracking, so that the ads it shows can be relevant rather than generic. You can say no, and everything in the app keeps working exactly the same either way. Nothing you enter in WindLimit is part of that: not your airports, your weather, your aircraft or your personal minimums.
Data stored on your device
Your preferences (home airport, aircraft, limits, theme) are saved locally on your device and never transmitted to us.
Location
If you use "Fetch Nearest METAR" or "Nearby Airports", WindLimit asks for your device's approximate location so it can find nearby airports with live weather reporting. The app requests low-accuracy location only, and it converts that into a rounded box roughly 60 nautical miles across before sending it to aviationweather.gov to ask which reporting stations fall inside it. That box is deliberately coarse and is not a record of where you are. Your location is never sent to Personal Wings, and we do not store it. You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in your device's settings without losing any other app functionality.
Weather data
When you select an airport, the app requests its current METAR, and its TAF if you ask for one, from aviationweather.gov (a U.S. government service). Only the airport identifier is sent. The nearby-airport search described above instead sends the rounded location box. No account or personal information is included in any of these requests.
Advertising
The free version of WindLimit shows ads served by Google AdMob in four places: a banner at the bottom of the main screen, a larger ad at the end of the airport picker and the weather report, a full-screen ad when you return to the app after leaving it, and an optional ad you choose to watch in exchange for temporary access to the paid features.
To serve them, Google collects a device identifier, advertising and app-interaction data, diagnostic data such as crash and performance logs, and an approximate location estimated from your IP address. This is described in the Google Privacy Policy. Purchasing the ad-free upgrade removes all advertising and its associated data collection.
The optional ad is never played unless you ask for it. Watching one unlocks the paid features for 24 hours; it does not remove the other ads, because those are what pay for the unlock.
Tracking
From version 1.0.4, WindLimit asks for permission to track, using Apple's standard App Tracking Transparency prompt. This changes only what kind of ads you see.
- If you allow it, Google may use your device's advertising identifier to show ads chosen partly from your activity in other companies' apps and websites.
- If you decline, or if you never answer, the app requests non-personalized ads only and does not use the advertising identifier.
You can change your answer at any time in iOS Settings under Privacy & Security, then Tracking. Nothing else in the app depends on it, and no feature is withheld either way.
In the EEA and the UK, Google's consent form appears first and governs whether ads can be requested at all. That is a separate question from the one above and it is asked separately.
WindLimit still has no accounts, so nothing it collects is tied to a name, an email address or a profile we hold. Purchasing the ad-free upgrade stops all of this: no ads are requested, and no advertising identifier is used.
Purchases
The ad-free upgrade is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We do not receive or store any payment information.
Not for operational use
WindLimit is an informational tool. It is not a substitute for official weather sources, aircraft documentation, or your operator's procedures.
